Amicalola Falls

The Amicalola Falls is a waterfall in Dawson County in the U.S. state of Georgia. The 222 m high falls are the highest waterfalls in Georgia and are considered the highest in the United States east of the Mississippi.

Geography

The cases come from Amicalola Mountain, a high ridge up to 1020 m of the Blue Ridge Mountains, extending from Dawsonville in a northeasterly direction to the Nimblewill Gap near Springer Mountain. From its south-west side of the Little Amicalola Creek plunges into seven steps into a pond which flows into the Etowah River.

History

The waterfalls were in the Cherokeesprache called Calo To Ma La, which means " water drumming ". They were first mentioned in 1832 by the surveyor William Williamson. 1940 surrounding the cases Amicalola Falls State Park was established.
