Amplifier is an alternative rock band from Manchester, United Kingdom.

Band History

In the record store by Neil Mahony Sel Balamir, Matt Brobin and he found himself together. All three had already gained experience in various bands. They gave their first joint concert in May 1999. Their debut album, Amplifier appeared in May 2004 at the British label Music for Nations and was very well received by the English and also German music press. After the label 's bankruptcy and the change to the SPV label, the album was re-released in June 2005 as a double CD. The second CD contains the videos and B- sides of singles also available only on the digipak hitherto song Half Life.

The EP The Astronaut dismantles Hal, which includes six pieces and a hidden track, was released in Germany on 14 October 2005 and showed a stylistic evolution of the band. For example, electric drum loops in the song Into the Space Age were involved. The second album, titled Insider was released in late September 2006 for Balamir the predecessor was "slow, played deeper, with longer songs - like mantras ". . Amplifier combines a friendship with the originating also from Manchester band Oceansize with which they have already played a larger number of concerts together. The former Oceansize guitarist and singer Steve Durose has been a permanent member of the band since 2011.

In February 2011, appeared with The Octopus 's third studio album by the band. Available is the double album as a special edition including 70 -page booklet and as a digipak with 8 -page booklet.

In March 2013, the fourth studio album Echo Street appeared.

Style

The guitar and bass sound is modified with numerous effects, even the vocals are distorted in some songs or listen enriched with effects. Musically they were influenced by classic rock and hard rock to progressive rock. Bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd, Tool and Soundgarden may be mentioned here.
