Andreas Müller (painter)

Andreas Johann Jakob Heinrich Müller ( born February 19, 1811 in Cassel, † March 29, 1890 in Dusseldorf ) was a German churches and historical painter of the Düsseldorf school.

Life

Andreas Müller was the son of the court painter Franz Hubert Müller was born on 19 February 1811 in Hesse -Kassel, his younger brother was the painter Karl Müller. Andreas Müller graduated from high school in Darmstadt, his father worked there as a gallery director. His father, whom he assisted in his work, brought him over four years, the first knowledge of painting with, then moved Müller in 1833 to the Academy in Munich, where he studied with Julius Schnorr von Carol Field and Peter von Cornelius. In order to deepen his knowledge of the oil painting, he joined in the following year on the run by Schadow Dusseldorf Art Academy. One of his teachers there was C. Son, in him the romantic genre attributed to oil painting was " The Knab from the mountain " after a poem by Uhland. Influenced by his acquaintance with Ernst Deger, Müller turned again to the already operated in Munich painting religious images. His next picture " Three Singing Angels" ( 1836) was purchased by Adolph Friedrich, the 1st Duke of Cambridge, in Hanover. The third picture " A read monk in a Klosterhofe " bought in 1837, the Art Association of the Rhineland and Westphalia.

This made it possible for him to travel in autumn with Deger in 1837 to Italy, where he continued his studies until early 1840. From the Count of Fürstenberg family home he was commissioned, along with Deger, Itten Bach and his brother Charles paint the St. Apollinaris Church at Remagen. At this job, he worked from 1843 to 1851. Used were developed by him colors with boiled oil, the works were under his direction. Wigmann counts these paintings " with the most sublime and most perfect that have arisen in the field of ecclesiastical art for centuries ." Its part of the job was the presentation of the life of St. Apollinaris in the four major panels of the east and west side of the transept. He also created where a series of images of the saints of the Fürstenberg family house, as well as the organ loft, the ideal figures of St. Cecilia and the royal singer David.

In 1855 he was appointed after the retirement of Mosler professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, where he worked as an art teacher of the elementary class, curator of the art collections and teacher of art history. In the fire of the Academy on the night of 19th to March 20th, 1872 several of his works, including a nearly perfected altarpiece of Saint Joseph and many portfolios were destroyed with studies. The altarpiece he made then to 1877 again ready. Another altarpiece, the Virgin and saints performing, was painted for the parish church in Lank on behalf of the Countess Czerklas. Furthermore emerged: in 1867 a life-size sacred " Barbara ", painted by order of the Prince-Bishop Förster of Breslau, and the two altarpieces ( Rosenkranz, Josef ) for the Church in Zyfflich on the Dutch border. On behalf of the Prince of Löwenstein -Wertheim -Rosenberg, a reliquary depicting the Passion of Christ in a cross shape was formed. A later implementation on a larger scale was acquired by the National Gallery in Berlin.

Much of his time took the classes at the Academy in claim for art collections, he wrote in 1860, published magazine " A copper engraving by Rafael in the collection of the Royal Academy of Arts to Dusseldorf, described by the Conservator this collection, Andreas Müller, a history painter and royal professor. In 1860, he commissioned him years of Prince Karl Anton of Hohenzollern with the decoration of the Arts Room of the Prince's castle at Sigmaringen, there developed in collaboration with his son, Franz 24 representations German masters. For the Prince Adolf of Schaumburg -Lippe he restored several old pictures, including the restoration of the time located in Dusseldorf image " Assumption " by Peter Paul Rubens deemed particularly successful. The restoration of the palace chapel in Biickeburg he could not quite finish. In 1881 he suffered a stroke that paralyzed him until his death and robbed of language. He died on 29 March 1890.

Müller presented as a graphic designer also produces ornamental work for the book design. He was awarded numerous medals and was a member of the academies in Vienna, Amsterdam and Lisbon.
