Andrei Sapozhnikov

Andrei Viktorovich Saposchnikow (Russian: Андрей Викторович Сапожников; born June 15, 1971 in Chelyabinsk, Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player who played in his playing days from 1990 to 2007 among others for the Wedemark Scorpions in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga and Russian Master of the HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk was.

Career

Andrei Saposchnikow began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at the HC Traktor Chelyabinsk, for which he was active in the highest Soviet or Russian league from 1990 to 1995. During this period, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1993 in the fifth round as the 129th overall player of the Boston Bruins, for whom he never played, however. Instead, he ended the 1994/95 season with their farm team in the American Hockey League, the Providence Bruins. Then the defender spent one season at SHC Fassa in the Italian Serie A, before moving to the Wedemark Scorpions of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga for the 1996/97 season. Shortly before the end of the season, however, he returned back to the Russian Super League, where he received a contract with HC Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

The 1997/98 season Saposchnikow spent with his hometown club HC Traktor Chelyabinsk, before moving for another two years as Metallurg Magnitogorsk. With Metallurg he won in the 1998/99 season for the first and only time in his career, the Russian Championship, as well as at European level in 1999 and 2000, the European Hockey League. From 2000 to 2004, the world champion of 1993, Severstal Cherepovets was on the ice with which it failed in the 2002/03 season in the playoff finals at Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. After spending the 2004/05 season at Chimik Woskressensk in the Super League and the Mechel Chelyabinsk HK in the second-rate Wysschaja League, the Left shooter was one year long at HK Avangard Omsk and Vityaz Chekhov of the Super League under contract. With Omsk he was runner up in the 2005/06 season again. At the age of 36, he finally finished his career in 2007.

Internationally

For Russia Saposchnikow participated in the 1993 World Series, in which he became world champion with his team.
