Chelmet Chelyabinsk

The HK Tschelmet Chelyabinsk (Russian ХК Челмет Челябинск ) is a Russian ice hockey club was established in 1948 from Chelyabinsk. The team plays in the Wysschaja Hockey League and bear its home games at Mechel Sports Palace. The club colors are blue, black and gray.

History

The club was founded in 1948 under the name Metallurg Chelyabinsk. This name was retained until 1990, before the name change to Mechel Chelyabinsk was. This name has the team from the Russian metallurgy Mechel Group, which includes also the Chelyabinsk combine to which the club belongs. Between 1997 and 2003 the team played in the Super League and was with the city rivals HC Traktor Chelyabinsk at eye level. 2003 to 2010 the team played in the second-rate Wysschaja league. In 2010 she was included in its successor league Wysschaja Hockey League. In summer 2012 the main sponsor Mechel got out and the club was renamed in HK Tschelmet Chelyabinsk ( Челябинск Металлург ).

HK Tschelmet Chelyabinsk acts as a farm team of the KHL participant and city rivals HC Traktor Chelyabinsk.
