Andreu Fontàs

Andreu Fontàs Prat ( born November 14, 1989 in Banyoles ) is a Spanish football player. Since the season 2011/12 the central defender belongs officially to the first team of FC Barcelona. He currently plays on loan for the RCD Mallorca.

Club career

Fontàs played in his first youth for CD Banyoles, a club from his hometown. After eleven years with this club he joined in 2006 for FC Girona. There he was actually intended for the youth team, then played but at the end of the season with the first team in the Tercera División.

After that season, he was courted by many Spanish clubs and decided ultimately for FC Barcelona. Fontàs was promoted to captain of the A- youth team of FC Barcelona and reached in the 2007/ 08 season, the final of the Copa del Rey de Juveniles de Fútbol, the Spanish Cup for juniors.

For the season 2008/ 09 he went to FC Barcelona B, the reserve team for the first team on. He completed this season, 20 league games for the B team and also gave his debut in the first team of FC Barcelona when he came in the semifinals of the Copa Catalunya against UE Sant Andreu on 8 September 2008 for use. Fontàs was also in the squad for the league game for the first team against RCD Mallorca on the 36th match day, but did not play.

Matchday 1 of the 2009/10 season Fontàs then denied his first league match for FC Barcelona. In the game against Sporting Gijon he came on with the score at 3-0 to Gerard Piqué. In the later course of the season he only played once for the first team 5-0 in the Spanish Cup against Cultural Leonesa. Fontàs played this season but still regularly in 26 games for Barcelona B. Shortly before the end of the season, Fontàs injured so badly that he turned out for three months.

Gameday On the 12th of the season 2010/11 Fontàs was the first time in the starting lineup in a league game for the first team. In the 8-0 victory over UD Almería he gave to the 4-0 goal from Pedro the original, with a pass from half court. On December 7, 2010, he was the last group game of the UEFA Champions League 2010/11 against Rubin Kazan used and the 2-0 victory of his team scored his first goal for Barça. After the failure of Éric Abidal Fontàs was appointed on 17 March 2011 for the remainder of the 2010/11 season in the first team. For the 2011/12 season Fontàs was included in the first team. In October 2011, Fontàs extended his contract until 2015.

On October 15, 2012 Fontàs was loaned within the league until end of the season RCD Mallorca. The lending outside the transfer period was exceptionally possible after some players from Mallorca injury would be out for a long time.

For the 2013/14 season changed Fontàs within the league for one million euros to Celta Vigo. FC Barcelona also secured a buy-back option. In Vigo, he meets coach Luis Enrique, who has already trained him in Barça B.

National team career

With the U-19 Selection of Spain, he won the 2008 Copa del Atlántico, a tournament that will be held in the Canaries.

In 2009 he won the held in Pescara Mediterranean Games with the U-20 national team of Spain. He also participated in this year with Spain's U- 20 at the Junior World Championship 2009 part. Fontàs came in the three ongoing successful group games used at Achtelfinalaus against Italy he was only on the bench.
