Copa Catalunya
The Copa Catalunya ( to German: Catalan Cup ) is an official football club competition, which is organized by the Federació Catalana de Futbol, the Catalan Football Federation. The Cup was first held in 1984 as Copa Generalitat, but without the involvement of professional clubs. History
After the abolition of Campionat de Catalunya ( to German: Catalan Championship) under the Franco regime in 1940, a follow-up competition was first established in 1984. First, the tournament was not recognized by the Spanish federation, so that only clubs from the Tercera División participated. In the season 1989/90 Copa Generalitat was again passed through the Catalan Football Federation and thus officially recognized. As of 1991, the two great Catalan club FC Barcelona and Espanyol Barcelona took part in the Copa, since all Catalan professional clubs were allowed to participate. Since 1993 is called the Copa Catalunya. Meanwhile, the importance of the Copa Catalunya rises again due to the great media interest in Catalonia and the participation of the top clubs in the region. However, the two big clubs from Barcelona to present mostly just a better B- team for this tournament.
Game system
