Andrey Kashechkin

Andrei Grigoryevich Kaschetschkin ( Russian spelling Андрей Григорьевич Кашечкин, born March 21, 1980 in Kyzylorda ) is a Kazakh cyclist.

Career

2001-2005

Kaschetschkin was discovered in 2001 by Patrick Lefevere, who offered him a contract with Domo - Farm Frites. He is a great talent and was therefore constructed by Lefevere slowly. Why could his 5th place in the Giro del Lazio designate 2003 as the most successful result at Domo - Farm Frites. In 2004 he then moved to Crédit Agricole, where he won the Grand Prix de Fourmies and Sachsen-Tour. With his 9th place finish at the Dauphiné Libéré, he proved his climbing characteristics on long climbs. At the Tour de France 2005 Kaschetschkin took 2nd place in the ranking of the best young professionals.

2006

At the request of his fellow countryman Alexander Vinokourov, the Liberty Seguros team undertook the Kazakhs in early 2006. In the spring he decided the 6th stage in Paris-Nice and Digne-Les - Bains to Cannes alone for themselves. The team got into trouble when it was involved in the doping scandal Fuentes. The sponsor withdrew and the persistence of the team was no longer safe. In June Kaschetschkin won the Kazakhstan championship. After teammate Vinokourov had organized a new sponsor, was the start of the Tour de France nothing in the way, but as the team due to suspensions in the wake of the doping scandal, only four drivers had in his tour squad, it was not allowed to start.

Under new management, the team, which went under the name Astana started in the Tour of Germany. There Kaschetschkin presented in fine form and was able to secure third place. A little later he also won at the one-day race Clasica San Sebastián third place.

Together with Vinokourov, he formed the tip of the Team Astana at the Vuelta a España in 2006. Since Astana was the only team that was represented by the two Kazakhs with two drivers in the favorite groups on the heavy mountain stages, they had a tactical advantage. Alternately could attack and thus drive the other riders tired Vinokourov and Kaschetschkin. The superiority of the team paid off. Kaschetschkin won a stage, the entire team even five. While Vinokourov took the overall victory, Kaschetschkin reached the third place in the overall standings also the podium.

2007

In 2007 Kaschetschkin occupied by a third place in the final time trial and third in the overall standings of the Tour de Romandie 2007, behind Thomas Dekker and his teammate Paolo Savoldelli.

A few weeks later he took also the third place overall in the Dauphiné Libéré and even drove for two days in the yellow jersey of overall leader, which he lost on the vorletzeten stage to Valloire to Christophe Moreau.

Doping

After an unannounced doping control on August 1 in Belek he tested positive for homologous blood doping. He was immediately suspended by his team Astana, which is anyway already shattered by doping scandals. After an equally positive result of the B sample, Kaschetschkin was fired from his team.

On 27 August 2007 his lawyer announced his intention to sue the UCI, because they do not have the right to use any racer to blood and urine samples. This violated the workers' rights, the lawyer. The Belgian civil court in which the suit was filed had, however, declared non- responsible and referred him to the UCI.

23 May 2008 Kaschetschkin was acquitted by the Kazakh Cycling Federation of doping suspicion. The UCI presented the CAS appeal against that judgment. In the following, he put the legitimacy of the unannounced doping control in question and moved to the European Court of Human Rights.

Since 2010 he moves back cycling race, first for the team Lampre- ISD. End of the year 2012, the Pro Team Astana suspended him, in which, because he refused to sign the Anti-Doping Rules teaminterenen since mid-2011 he was driving. Once he made up the signing, the team picked up the suspension.

End of the 2013 season, he finished his career as a professional cyclist.

Private

Kaschetschkin has two brothers: the younger, Oleg rider is also in a Continental team. Andrei is married to Nadia since October 2005 and has a son who was born during the 2007 Tour de France.

For his achievements in 2006, he was given by the Kazakh head of state Nursultan Nazarbayev an apartment in the capital Astana.
