Andy Bell (singer)

Andrew Ivan Bell ( born April 25, 1964 in Peterborough, England ) is a British pop singer. Together with Vince Clarke he formed the duo Erasure.

Biography

Bell began his singing career in their own words in the church choir. At times he worked in a factory as a meat packer. In 1985, he was with Pierre Cope member of the project things that had received the Single Air of Mystery. In March 1985, he responded to an advertisement, sought with Vince Clarke for a singer for a new music project. Bell was the audition of 43 participants and was awarded the contract. Since then, Clarke and Bell work together. On 14 December 2004 Bell announced that he was HIV positive and knew this since 1998. Bell speaks German since his school days, when he could choose between Latin and German at the time. He chose German because he wanted to learn a dead language. In addition, Bell had lived some years in Berlin and there deepened his knowledge of German. Bell currently lives with his partner in Hastings.

Solo projects

In 1991, Bell in the opera "The Fall of the House of Usher " by Peter Hammill the role of Montresor. In October 2005, Bell released his first solo album Electric Blue. On the album three duets with Claudia Bridges of Propaganda and Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters are included.

Social Commitment

Bell is active in the animal rights organization PETA. For this he took in 1991 together with Lene Lovich to the song Rage. The revenue they donated exclusively PETA. Also supported Bell various AIDS support in the UK. In addition, he is active in the gay movement and is fighting against, among others anti-gay legislation in his native England.
