Andy Sertich ( born May 6, 1983 in Coleraine, Minnesota ) is an American- Croatian hockey player. Since November 2013, he plays for Alba Volán Székesfehérvár in the Austrian Hockey League for the position of the defender.

Career

Clubs

Andy Sertich was born in Coleraine in the U.S. state of Minnesota. His family is from the Croatian region of Lika. His hockey career began in the 2001/ 02 season with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the Junior League United States Hockey League. Through the Pittsburgh Penguins Sertich was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2002 in the fifth round at 136th place. In summer 2002, the defender moved to the University of Minnesota hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, where among other things, Thomas Vanek, Paul Martin and Phil Kessel played. He remained there for four years and in 2003 and 2004 champion of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and 2003 champion of the NCAA. He then moved in 2006 to the Utah Grizzlies, the farm team of the New York Islanders in the ECHL.

During the game the 2007/ 08 Sertich also came to assignments with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League, which were also in cooperation with the Grizzlies and Islanders. In the 2008 /09 season he came back primarily in Utah for use. The Croatian hockey club KHL Medveščak Zagreb undertook Andy Sertich for season 2009/10. In the capital club he belonged in the next two years within the team to the players with the most points scorer. In 2011, he was with Medveščak first Croatian champion and defended his team this title in the following two years. After the team from Zagreb has given his move in the Continental Hockey League announced in May 2013, he went to the EC Graz 99ers and thus remained in the Austrian Hockey League. After he had already asked the end of October or beginning of November to have the contract rescinded, he transferred to November 6, 2013 within the League to Alba Volán Székesfehérvár.

Internationally

His debut for the Croatian national team, he was at the 2012 World Championships in Division II, where he was top scorer of the tournament as a defensive player with seven gates. A year later he succeeded with the Croatian team promotion to the Division I. This time he was named the best defender of the tournament. He also participated in Sochi at the Olympic qualification for the Games in 2014.
