Anne McLaughlin

Anne McLaughlin ( born March 8, 1966 in Greenock ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party ( SNP).

Life

McLaughlin attended the Port Glasgow High School and then studied at Glasgow University and at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Then she headed theater groups in deprived areas and then worked for a nonprofit organization for the deaf and the blind. They also organized the Donations from Cancer Research UK and helped after the 2004 tsunami in rebuilding the economy of Sri Lanka.

Political career

McLaughlin is an active member of the SNP since the late 1980s. For the first time she went to for their party in the municipal elections in Glasgow in 1999, but was not elected. At the general election in 2001 she applied for the direct mandate of the constituency Glasgow Rutherglen. She received 14.2%, the second-largest share of votes, but was defeated by Labour candidate Thomas McAvoy clearly. In 2003 she ran for the Scottish Parliament elections in the constituency of Glasgow Rutherglen, but received only the third highest number of votes. Also missed McLaughlin 2007, the direct mandate of the constituency of Glasgow Springburn. When her party colleague Bashir Ahmad died in 2009, McLaughlin slipped as following according to the regional election for the choice list of SNP Glasgow area, and pulled 9 February 2009 for the first time in the Scottish Parliament. Previously, she had worked as a policy analyst for MPs Bob Doris. In the Scottish Parliament elections in 2011 McLaughlin could only reach second place behind Paul Martin in their constituency Glasgow Provan and consequently resigned at the end of the legislative term of the parliament from. After the death of the lower house MP David Cairns 2011 elections in the constituency of Inverclyde were recognized in June, which took McLaughlin. Although it was able to increase the share of votes for the SNP significantly, but still subject to the Labour leader Iain McKenzie significantly.
