Life

Kerckhoven ( dealing with AMVK abbreviates ) studied graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In the 70s, she was part of the Belgian underground scene and tested in her performances, drawings, music and lyrics, the boundaries of contemporary art. With Danny Devos 1981 she founded the Industrial band Club Moral. In 2003, she received the award for Visual Arts Prize and the Prize of the Flemish Community in the field of visual arts.

From 2006 she was a guest of the DAAD Berlin Artists Programme .. In 2007, she continued her musical development within the project Bum Collar. With the exhibition Nothing More Natural she was seen in Lucerne, Brussels, Carquefou and Nuremberg in 2009.

Kerckhoven lives and works in Antwerp and Berlin.

Work

In their great graphic work is often the female body at the center. In her films, she often uses her drawings, but also images of pin -up girls, distorted colors and collages. Other films combine different views of an event ( a dance, a walk through a house ), by overlaying copying two or three separately recorded movies.

An important feature in their movies play music and sounds. Often the films are intended as background projection for a performance or for the appearance of one of its bands (Club Moral, Bum Collar ) and were in a loop (loop ) configuration.

Their works reflect philosophical, technological and social concepts and confronts them with their critical period of the spirit of the '68 movement position.

Most recently, she worked on a kind of visual Trialogue, influenced by the mystic Marguerite Porete, the Hermetists Giordano Bruno - both sentenced for their ideas to death at the stake, and the philosopher Herbert Marcuse. The Artforum reminds her work channeling divergent influences and their stylistic fusion of Valentine de Saint-Point, author of the Futurist Manifesto of Lust and sees Van Kerckhoven as a feminist futurist.
