Anoraknophobia

Occupation

Anoraknophobia is the twelfth studio album by the British progressive rock band Marillion. The album was released in May 2001.

Background

The album title is a portmanteau of Anoraknophobia " anorak ", " No" and " Phobia". Anorak is an English slang term that refers to someone who has got an obsessive hobby. " Anoraknophobia " is meant to have no fear of people with passions. Marillion understood this as solidarity with their fans who had financed this album. The three previous albums were at Castle Communications, an indie label, appeared where Marillion, however, did not feel well cared for. Tell a friend were asked the fans if they would pre-finance the album, which then also did more than 12,000 fans. With the secured financing Marillion went on to EMI and made the major label to its distributor, but the rights remain with the band.

Reception

In contrast to previous works, Anoraknophobia was very well received by most critics. In laut.de the reviewer still mourns the Fish era and finds " incomprehensible breaks and monotone vocal melodies ." Reviewers of the Baby Blue Pages contrast, distributed for the first time since This Strange Engine back more than 10 points. Also progarchives.com, dprp.net, durp.com and vampster.com emphasize the progressive alignment Marillion within the meaning of the word.
