Somewhere Else (English for " Somewhere else ") is the fourteenth studio album by the British progressive rock band Marillion. It was released in April 2007.

Background

In contrast to the two previous albums Marbles and Anoraknophobia was waived on Somewhere Else on funding campaign by the fans. The album was released only as a "normal" CD, which many fans displeasure caused because they expected something special - bonus tracks on their pre-order CD or their names in the booklet, a deluxe edition. Marillion responded by a DVD with 3 Somewhere Else live tracks recorded at the Marillion Weekend 2007, which was sent to all preorder along with the CD. As a producer album Michael Hunter was hired for this, which has ensured according to Steve Rothery for a more spontaneous, lighter setting.

Reviews

The reviewers criticized the album positive but not outstanding. Often, a comparison with Marbles was drawn to Somewhere Else usually lost.

"The good news: You can expect the inclined fan no half-baked experiments, and no disoriented self-discovery processes such as on " Radiation "and" marillion.com ". "Somewhere Else" closes gaps in the excellent predecessor, " Marbles " to have with the Marillion found themselves again and their distinctive sound. In this case, the new album is not a leftovers from Marbles sessions, but convinced rather by the type of songs that are written with such intensity and captivating atmosphere that can be found on "Brave " and " Afraid of Sunlight", only by Marillion can be. "

" " Somewhere Else " is a pleasantly earthy trip, free of bombast quark and Electro- frills. No Dream Theater meets Tangerine Dream, but handmade Light- prog with psychedelic approaches from which the melodies also extract itself slowly, but build without boredom. How will this also happen with crunchy pieces like "The wound" that say in seven minutes is all rolled out another tedious to 20 minutes. "

"... The footprints " left Marbles " three years ago, are practically miles wide. About songs like " Neverland ", " The Invisible Man" and above all "Ocean Cloud" as perhaps the most ingenious Long Track of the band's history to throw a big shadow on the expectation of the new album of the British noble sound wizard. A shadow of expectation, which will be thrown rather quickly overboard if you do not want to have too heavy with "Somewhere Else". "

" " Somewhere else " has likewise beautiful melodies with world-weariness and dynamic moments, and light touch 60s, a real blast to find but not on this album. This means now is not that "Somewhere else" would be a disappointment -. No means "

" ... For me SOMEWHERE ELSE is a successful blend of RADIATION and MARBLES, can not keep up with second -called whole. "

"In 2007, Marillion are a perfectly functioning machine excellent instrumentalists seem to all be able except for a bad song. And maybe a big surprise. "
