Antara (news agency)

Antara News ( Indonesian: Berita ANTARA ) is the official press agency of the Indonesian Government.

The agency of Adam Malik Soemanang, AM Sipahoetar and Pandoe Kartawagoena was founded on 13 December 1937 to support the fight against the Dutch colonial administration and later against the Japanese occupation. She was the first news agency reported from the Declaration of Independence on 17 August 1945.

In 1962, Antara News official national news agency was subordinated directly by decree of Indonesia and President Sukarno. After the coup from the right beginning of October 1965, the news agency of the Military District Command of the capital Jakarta ( Kodam Jaya ) was assumed and dismissed a third of the workforce.

To celebrate its 70th anniversary signed ANTARA 's CEO Ahmad Mukhlis Yusuf in December 2007, a cooperation agreement with the Turkish news agency Anadolu and Azertac from Azerbaijan, as well as the airline Merpati Nusantara Airlines.

The headquarters is in the Indonesian capital Jakarta. It has branches in all provinces of the country and employs approximately 200 correspondents analyze the news from the regions of the country.

The news agency has international offices in New York, in the Australian capital Canberra, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Brussels, Cairo, and in the Yemeni capital Sanaa. She is a member of several organizations, such as ANEX, OANA and NANAP.
