Antonello Crescenzio

Antonello Crescenzio, also Antonello Panormita or Antonello da Palermo (* 1476 in Palermo, † 1542 ) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance in Sicily.

Life

Crescenzio is usually equated with Antonello Panormita. About his training and the life cycle is not known. Probably born in Palermo, he came at a young age to Syracuse, where he also married well. His work is influenced first by the Flemish embossed art Antonello da Messina, later he approached to the artistic style of Raphael.

After working in Syracuse, Gela and Polizzi Generosa in 1503, he worked in the Cappella Santa Cristina of the Cathedral of Palermo. He then painted the organ case of the Chiesa Madre of Corleone. There follow in Palermo 80 paintings for the ceiling of S. Maria la Nuova and a painting for the high altar of the Chiesa del Carmine. From Crescenzio also frescoes in the Palazzo Chiaramonte originate in Palermo.
