Antonio Francesco Orioli

Antonio Francesco Orioli, OFM Conv ​​( born December 10, 1778 in Bagnacavallo, Italy, † February 20, 1852 in Rome) was bishop of Orvieto and cardinal.

Life

Orioli joined the Franciscans in 1793 and put the profession on. He then studied theology until 1804 and was ordained a priest. From 1807 to 1809 he was a lecturer in theology at the College of St. Bonaventure in Rome. After spending three years in France, he returned to Italy in 1812 and in 1817 professor at St. Bonaventure. Pope Pius VII appointed consultant to the Congregation of the Index to Orioli. In September 1832 he was Vicar General of the Franciscan Order.

Pope Gregory XVI. appointed him on 15 April 1833 Bishop of Orvieto. The bishop He was ordained on May 1 of that year by Cardinal Vicar Giacinto Placido Zurla.
