Bagnacavallo

Bagnacavallo is a municipality with 16,763 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Ravenna.

Location and data

Bagnacavallos economy is agricultural and medium- oriented. Borders the following municipalities: Alfonsine, Cotignola, Faenza, Fusignano, Lugo, Ravenna and Russi.

History

Since the Bronze Age populated, the community was Umbrian, Etruscan, Celtic, Roman, Byzantine and Lombard area. According to local rulers in the Middle Ages the city was bolognesisches and faentinisches area. After that they belonged to the Counts of Cunio, the Manfredi and the adventurer Giovanni Acuto. After the rule of the Este 1440 to 1598 it belonged to the unification of Italy in the Papal States.

The name Bagnacavallo ( in German " Horse Pond " ) comes the legend of a healing source to have cured the beloved warhorse of Emperor Tiberius. Referred to by the motto of the coat of arms, " Ingredior rhoebus, cyllaros Egredior " ( "Sick I enter, I will go forth healthy "). More likely, however, that the name comes from a ford near the first settlement.

Bagnacavallo maintains partnership relations with the German community Neresheim in Baden- Württemberg ( since 1994), the Polish city Strzyżów in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship (since 2006) and the French community Aix -en -Othe, in the Champagne -Ardenne region (since 2012).
