Conselice

Conselice ( Cunsèls on Romagnol ) is a municipality with 9890 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Ravenna in the Italian region Emilia -Romagna, it is located 46 km east of Bologna and 38 km west of Ravenna.

Geography

Conselice located in the Po Valley south of the delta of the Po. Through the municipal area of ​​the Sillaro flows.

It borders the following municipalities: Alfonsine, Argenta (FE), Imola (BO), Lugo, Massa Lombarda.

History

In ancient times the city was called Caput Silicis on a lagoon with a connection to the Adriatic Sea. Caput Silicis, means " At the end of Via Silicis ", where " Silicis " gravel called. She was a port city, which was important for trade in the city, an ancient city of the Etruscans, and was at the end of Via Selice, a Roman road which crosses the Via Emilia. The first known document in which the city is known as Portus de capite selcis, dates back to 1084 AD During this time the city belonged to Imola, which settled to trade with Venice over the harbor.

In the 14th century Conselice came to the Papal States, who extended it like a fortress. Already in 1395 it fell to the Este of Ferrara. 1598 came again to the Papal States until 1859, after a referendum joined the new Kingdom of Italy.
