Arabs in Berlin

Arabs in Berlin (Arabic: العرب في برلين ) constitute the fourth largest ethnic minority group in the city, after the Turkish, Polish and Russian community. Currently, more than 70,000 people of Arab descent live in the city, which make up 2.03% of the population. They live mainly in the districts of Neukölln, Schöneberg, Wedding, Moabit and Kreuzberg. Mainly, the native language is spoken Arabic, in smaller numbers also German. The majority are followers of Islam, and there are Christians, followers of smaller religious communities and people without religion binding.

History

Most Arabs in Berlin are refugees from the conflicts in the Middle East, particularly Lebanon wars. The Arabs in Berlin are not a homogeneous group, since they come from over 20 countries. Because a large number of stateless persons is among them and the ethnic allocation is sometimes unclear (eg the Mhallamiye ), all figures are inaccurate.

Approximately 35,000 of them are Palestinians and 15,000 are of Lebanese descent. The remaining 22,000 are on the origin of her mostly Moroccans, Iraqis, Algerians and Egyptians.

Dissemination

Similar to the Turkish community, the Arabs are concentrated mainly in the inner-city neighborhoods of West Berlin.

In the case of Neukölln 80 % of the Arabs live in the same district of Neukölln, where they form 10% of the total population.
