Aranis

Aranis is a Belgian AvantProg band.

Band History

Cited by Joris Vanvinckenroye band in the tradition of Univers Zéro and combines neo-classical chamber music with minimalist rock and jazz. Even Stravinsky, Bartók, Shostakovich, Astor Piazzolla, Gavin Bryars, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Flat Earth Society are cited as influences.

Aranis completed in 2002 first live performances. Their self-titled debut album was recorded and released in 2005, a second album with Bart Maris followed as a guest musician in 2007. For the third album Songs from Mirage three singers were engaged. On the fourth album Roque Forte pianist Pierre Chevalier were ( Univers Zéro, Present) and with Dave Kerman ( Thinking Plague, Present) participated for the first time a drummer.

Together with Univers Zéro and Present Aranis occurred in September 2011 as Once Upon a Time in Belgium on the French rock -in- opposition - Festival. The fifth album was released in 2012. Entitled Made in Belgium and includes compositions by Wim Mertens and other Belgian musicians of AvantProg scene. Trey Gunn was involved as a guest musician.
