Arben Imami

Arben Imami Fahri ( born January 21, 1958 in Tirana) is an Albanian politician (PD). In ruling since 2009 Cabinet Berisha II, it's defense minister.

Life

Training

1981 Arben Imami finished his studies at the School of Art Instituti i Larte i ArtEve in Tirana. At the renamed to the University of the Arts University he subsequently worked as a lecturer. Between 1999 and 2000 he studied on a fellowship at the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington DC in the United States.

Political career

1990/91 he participated in the student protests in the capital and one of the founders of the Democratic Party of Albania, which he listened to today. In the 1991 elections Imami was elected to Parliament and became Group President of his party.

Arben Imami 1992, Neritan Ceka, Prec Zogaj and other members seceded from the Democratic Party and formed the Democratic Alliance (AD). In the following parliamentary elections in 1992, 1996, 1997 and 2001, he was re-elected each. From 1997 to 1999 Imami was in the socialist governments of Fatos Nano and Pandeli Majko minister for law reform and parliamentary relations. In the years 2000 and 2001 he was Minister of Justice from 2001 to 2002 and Minister of Local Government and Decentralisation Ilir Meta.

Imami and his former party colleague Sali Berisha, leader of the Democratic Party, had repeated disagreements and made each other again and again serious allegations. But in 2005 her longtime dispute was settled. Imami left the AD and moved back to PD. Berisha transferred Imami the post of Chef de Cabinet. In 2009, Imami was nominated for the second cabinet Berisha's Minister of Defence.

Acting Career

Imami has starred in two film productions of cinema studios Shqipëria e Re: 1979 in film Balle Balle për, in which Ismail Kadare was a producer, and in 1980 in the film nE cdo stine with Anisa Markarian.

Private

Imami is married and has two children.
