Arch of Triumph (Pyongyang)

The Arch of Triumph in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, located at the foot of Moran Hill in front of the Kim Il-sung Stadium at Chilsongmun Street in the borough Moranbong - guyŏk and lies at the Kaeson metro station. It is modeled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, but three meters higher than its French counterpart and thus the highest triumphal arch in the world.

The monument is to commemorate the return of Kim Il-sung from the so-called Fatherland Liberation War. It is one of the main tourist attractions of the city. It was built by the North Korean art troupe company Overseas Projects.

Architecture

The triumphal arch was built in 1982 on an area of ​​2210 square meters and a total of 10,500 granite blocks and, as well as the Juche Tower, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the former North Korean power holder Kim Il-sung. It is 60 meters high and 50 meters wide and has on all its four sides on each one framed with carved in stone archway azaleas. The height of the relief- decorated arches is 27 meters and the width of 18,60 meters.

Above one of the archways that are traversed by the four-lane road, the first two verses of the Song of General Kim Il-sung are to read. About another of Paektusan is shown. On the pillars on the left and right of this arch are, referring to the Japanese rule in Korea, the annual figures in 1925 and 1945. In the niches at the foot of these columns are located on each side statues, the fighters for independence from the Japanese Empire intended to represent; with waving flags, soldiers, workers and laborers, as well as an armed mother and children.
