ARD Digital

ARD Digital is the name of the digital television bouquets of ARD. The motto is: " ARD Digital - More from television.".

General

It will be broadcast throughout Germany via cable (DVB -C), the Astra satellite (DVB -S) and IPTV. Some programs from the offer are also be received via terrestrial television by (DVB -T) antenna.

Currently, 17 television and 61 radio channels in the DVB standard to be transferred. Among them, in addition to analog broadcast at the same time also three digitally produced exclusively for ARD programs. With them it is possible, for example, to see shows from "Das Erste" at different times.

The play-out center ( POC) for these programs is located in Potsdam at RBB, here the ARD -digital coordination is also located. Furthermore, the compiled data stream of the POC from Potsdam is transmitted to the Astra satellite, from where it is fed into the cable networks. Other locations are in Frankfurt am Main and Langenberg. Here, a different part of the program is compiled ( multiplexed ) and transmitted to the satellite ( uplink).

To receive a suitable digital television receiver ( Set-Top Box ) to the DVB standard is necessary. Supplements will not apply.

19 March 2008, the ARD has the satellite transponder of ARD Digital changed as part of the ARD - quality drive to transfer the programs on cable and satellite with a higher bandwidth. In addition, all regional programs are fed into the cable networks, as more radio programs and the Bavarian television is broadcast in the future as Bayerisches Fernsehen North and South Bavarian television via cable and satellite. By 2 June 2008, the station Eins Extra, Eins Festival, Eins Plus, ARTE, Phoenix and Radio Bremen TV were sent simultaneously to the old and the new transponder; BR -alpha by mid- 2009. Multiplexes for DVB-T

The merged into the ARD stations decide which programs from the digital ARD bouquet they broadcast on Freeview. To this end, they usually operate two multiplexes ( in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern only one), partly in cooperation. In addition, the ZDF operates a nationwide multiplex identical, which also contains the ARD investments 3sat and KiKA. Interactive

In addition to radio and television programs, the ARD offered in the digital bouquet to also interactive services.
