Areguá

Areguá ( Guaraní Aregua ) is a city in Paraguay. It has 11,224 inhabitants ( 1 January 2005) and is the capital of the department of Central.

The city is located near the lake Ypacarai, which lies about 30 km from Asunción. It is located on a gently sloping hill, from which one can see the whole area up to the Ypacarai Lake. Areguá is also in close proximity to the city Ypacarai that bears the same name as the lake.

The city is known for its many craft shops in the potter's field, who sell their goods in a long shopping street. In addition, it has a famous church and the narrow lanes in the center.

Areguá is connected to Asunción on Luque by a busy highway.
