Arlau

The Arlau (Danish: ARLA ) is a 37 km long river in the district of North Friesland Schleswig -Holstein, which flows into the North Sea and belongs to the river basin Eider.

Course

The Arlau springs southeast of Sollwitt in North Frisia. She shares the Harde Goes in Norder - and Southshore Goes Harde. Initially it flows a few miles south and passes it to the municipal boundary of Behrendorf and Bondelum. Approximately 3 km southeast of Behrendorf changes its course to the west. Then the Arlau flows south to north and Viöl to Arlewatt past, crosses the Hattstedtermarsch to ultimately culminate in Beltringharder polder at Holmer Siel in the North Sea.

Hydraulic Engineering in the mouth region

The drain in the North Sea is regulated by a sluice and the front of it Arlau memory pool in Beltringsharder - polder. However, the two hydrotechnical constructions also protect the inhabited low-lying hinterland of Hattstedtermarsch in a storm surge from the penetration of North Sea water. The storage pool makes today an additional pumping station at Holmer Siel - as opposed to the old Arlau- lock in the Hattstedtermarsch - superfluous.

Tributaries

Tributaries of the Arlau downstream are considered, among other things Grams Holmer Bek, the Imme, the Eckstockau that Ostenau and Jelstrom and outside this range the BTA.
