Armen Mkrtchyan

Poor Mkrttschjan (Armenian Արմեն Մկրտչյան; internat transcription: Armen Mkrtchyan born October 6, 1973) is a former Armenian wrestler. He was European champion in 1994 and won at the 1996 Olympics, a silver medal each in free style in the light flyweight.

Career

Poor Mkrttschjan began as a teenager in 1986 with the rings. He concentrated on the free style. While his playing days, he was member of the sports club Ararat Veti. One of his coaches was Grant Yenokjan. The 1.53 meter tall athlete always started in the lightest weight category of the men's ring. This was until 1996, the light flyweight ( up to 48 kg) and since 1997 the flyweight ( up to 54 kg). After ending his international career wrestler, he emigrated to Germany in 2002 and went there for some years for the RWG Moembris -Königshofen at the start. He was then Ringer coach at the Aachen- Walheim TV.

At the beginning of his career Mkrttschjan launched in 1990, in which he took part in the Junior World Championship in Istanbul and there also won the world title, nor for the Soviet Union. But even at his next international launch he did for Armenia. This was the European Junior Championships in 1992 in Szekesfehervar. Also there Mkrttschjan arms, took the title. In 1993 he took then for the first time at an international championship in the senior part. He came here at the European Championships in Istanbul, in the Bulgarian Marian Nedkow won the title on the 5th Place. In the same year he was then at the Junior World Championships in Athens again titleholder before Viktor Efteni from Ukraine. In August 1993, he also took part in the World Cup in Toronto and took there the 5th Place.

1994 won Mkrttschjan then his first international championship in the seniors. He was European champion in Rome, defeating fight for victory the German Reiner pitchfork. But with the Wrestling World Championships this year in Istanbul, he still had to pay dues, retired early and finished only 11th place. At the European Championships in 1995 in Fribourg / Switzerland, he could not defend his European title in 1994. He came there behind Wugar Orudschow, Russia, Laszlo Olvary, Hungary and Viktor Efteni only on the 4th Place. For this he won this year a bronze medal at the World Championships in Atlanta behind Wugar Orudschow and Alexis Vila from Cuba.

Was very successful for poor Mkrttschjan 1996. Initially he was in Budapest, behind Viktor Efteni but before Wugar Orudschow Vice - European Champion and then he won at the Olympic Games in Atlanta a silver medal. Towards this medal, he defeated Jose Manuel Restrepo Gonzales from Colombia, Rob pus, United States, Alexis Vila and Vitaly Railean from Moldova and in the final he had against Kim Il -ong from North Korea with 4:5 points within a mere point defeat suffered.

In 1997, the International Wrestling Federation ( FILA ) undertook a weight class redistricting. The light flyweight ( up to 48 kg) was completely gone and the Flyweight ( up to 54 kg) was the lightest weight class at the men wrestling. Poor Mkrttschjan came in the new weight class flyweight cope no longer as good as the "old" light flyweight. After all, he came at the European Championships 1998 in Bratislava with four wins and two losses to a good 5th place. But at the World Championship 1999 in Ankara he lost to Alexander Sacharjuk from Ukraine and Zuunbayan Tumendemberel from Mongolia and wound up a 35th place.

At the European Championships in Budapest in 2000, he defeated Thomas Röthlisberger from Switzerland and Stanislaw Surdyka from Poland and lost to Amiran Kartanow from Greece, finishing in 6th place. For participation in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney he could not qualify. At the end of his international career Ringer arms Mkrttschjan then won at the European Championships in Budapest in 2001 with victories over Ludek Burian, the Czech Republic and Ion Blidari, Romania, a defeat against Ghenadie Tulbea, Moldova and a win over Mevlana Kulac, Turkey, once a bronze medal.
