Armidale Dumaresq is located in the northeast of the state about 550 kilometers north of Sydney. The area includes 83 districts and towns, including Armidale, Dangarsleigh, Dumaresq, Hillgrove, Jeogla, Kelly Plains, Lower Creek, Wollomombi and parts of Black Mountain and Ebor. The administrative headquarters of the council is in the city of Armidale in the west of the LGA, which has about 19,500 inhabitants.

The area is located in the New England region and is dominated by agriculture ( production of wool, cattle ). Armidale is a city and seat of the University of New England, Australia's oldest university outside of the big cities. Several national parks in the region and make tourism an important economic factor of Armidale Dumaresq.

Management
