Arthur Annesley, 1st Earl of Anglesey

Arthur Annesley, 1st Earl of Anglesey (* July 10, 1614, † April 6, 1686 ) was an Anglo-Irish aristocrat. After a brief period as president of the English Council of State, and as Treasurer of the Navy, he served 1673-1682 under Charles II as Lord Privy Seal.

Family and kinship

He was related to the Puritan pastor Samuel Annesley and thus also to his daughter Susanna Wesley (née Annesley ) as well as John and Charles Wesley, the founders of Methodism.

Annesley married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir James Altham from Oxey. The couple had seven sons and six daughters.
