Ashoke Sen

Ashoke Sen ( Bengali: অশোক সেন, Asok Sen; * July 1956 ) is an Indian theoretical physicist and one of the leading string theorists.

From 1962 to 1972 he attended the Sailendra Sirkar Vidyalaya - school and then the Presidency College of Calcutta University in Kolkata. From 1976, he studied for two years at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. In 1982 he completed his studies at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. As a postdoctoral fellow he was from 1982 to 1985 at Fermilab and from 1985 to 1988 at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. In 1988 he went as professor to the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai and since 1995 he works at the Harish - Chandra Research Institute in Allahabad.

Ashoke Sen is one of the discoverers of the S- duality and developed a theory for the tachyon condensation of open strings on. He also works in the field of string theory.

In 2012 he was awarded the Fundamental Physics Prize.
