Atka, Russia

Atka (Russian Атка ) is an urban-type settlement in Magadan Oblast (Russia) with 485 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The village is located about 150 km as the crow north-northeast of Magadan Oblastverwaltungszentrums in Kolymagebirge the eponymous river Atka in the system of the Kolyma Creek Bachaptscha.

Atka belongs to Rajon Chassynski and is located approximately 100 km north-east of the administrative center of Palatka. The settlement is the seat and only town in the municipality ( gorodskoje posselenije ) Possjolok Atka.

History

The settlement was founded in the late 1930s in connection with the construction of the Kolymatrasse. Since 1953, Atka has the status of an urban-type settlement.

Atka is located on the highway R504 Kolyma, Magadan with the Nizhny Bestjach at Yakutsk connects (previously M56, number until 2017 alternatively in use).
