Auburndale is a city in Polk County in the U.S. state of Florida with 13,507 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Auburndale is adjacent to the cities of Haines City and Winter Haven. The city is located about 20 km north of Bartow and about 60 kilometers east of Tampa.

History

Auburndales roots can be traced back to the year 1873, when John Ledue the first official settlers on Lake Ariana was. The first house was built in 1884, 4 months after the railway line was completed.

Religions

In Auburndale, there are 23 different churches with 13 different denominations. Among the belonging to a denomination churches the Baptist church is strongest with 5 churches. There are 3 to no denomination belonging churches ( as of 2004).

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 13,507 inhabitants distributed to 5,670 households. The population density was 1,000.5 inh. / Km ². 80.0 % of the population were white, 12.8% African American, 0.4% Native American and 1.2% Asian Americans. 3.5% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.2% in different ethnic groups. 13.1% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 26.8 % of all households lived in 37.8 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 73.7 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.71 persons and the average family size is 3.11 people.

28.6 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.4% were 20-39 years old, 27.6% were 40-59 years old and 19.4 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 38 years. 48.3 % of the population were male and 51.7 % female.

The average annual income was $ 42,099, while 19.8 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 91.60 % of the population spoke Spanish 7.52% and 0.88 % had a different mother tongue.

The crime rate in 2010 was 408 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There was a murder, two rapes, 18 robberies, 43 injuries, 199 burglaries, 575 thefts and 23 car thefts.
