Augsburg University of Applied Sciences

The University of Applied Sciences Augsburg - University of Applied Sciences ( Hochschule Augsburg short ) is a university based in Augsburg, was established in 1971. It is divided into the areas business, design, engineering, and computer science. With about 5,400 students, the University of Augsburg is one of the largest universities in Bavaria. 128 professors and 226 lecturers teach at the seven faculties. Currently, 15 undergraduate and 19 constituent programs are offered.

History

The Augsburg University was established on August 1, 1971 due to the Bavarian specialist Higher Education Act by the union of the Rudolf-Diesel- Polytechnic and the School of Applied Arts. Both predecessor institutions looked at that same time on a long tradition.

The origins of the university can be traced back to the year 1670. At that time, a private art academy was founded in Augsburg by Joachim von Sandrart. The Augsburg Academy, therefore, is incorporated under the Jacob of Sandrart already in 1662, the Academy in Nuremberg one of the oldest art academies in Germany. 1684 was the recognition of the Academy by the Protestant part of the bipartite Council of the City of Augsburg. From this point there was talk of the " Protestant Academy ". 1710 was founded " Empire State Art Academy " and thus made accessible to all citizens the facility. The Empire State Art Academy was led from the start of two joint directors. The Catholic directors included artists such as Johann Rieger ( 1710-1730 ), Johann Georg Berg Müller ( 1730-1762 ), Matthäus Günther ( 1762-1784 ) and Johann Josef Anton Huber (from 1784). Protestant directors were, for example, Georg Philipp Rugendas ( 1710-1742 ), Gottfried Eichler the Elder ( 1742-1759 ), Johann Elias Ridinger ( 1759-1767 ), Johannes Esaias Nilson ( 1769-1786 ) and Johann Elias Haid ( 1786-1808 ).

The City Council had her two years later, in 1712, a "solid Local" in the upper floor of the so-called " Stadtmetzg ", a construction of Elias Holl, too. 1779 began the reforming of the entire study program and they founded the city under nurse Paul von Stetten a " private company to the encouragement of the arts" (a kind of patrons ).

After 1808 Augsburg took off the status of free imperial city, then also ended the existence of the kingdom of the Municipal Academy of Fine Arts. So the establishment until 1814 served as a feeder for the Munich Academy, and was named 1814 " Royal Art School". This went on in the Higher School of Art was founded in 1820. In 1835 it was incorporated into the established on November 11, 1833 "Royal Polytechnic School." This was initially located in the Fugger houses and 1834 in the former St. Catherine's Monastery. Its most famous pupil was the later " painter prince " Franz Spranger. The year 1864 brought after 29 years, the resolution of this school, only one mechanical engineering school remained. She led from 1870 to 1907 the name "Royal Industrial School ", which was also attended by Rudolf Diesel, who later became an engineer and inventor visited. In technical faculties there was until 1924 the transitional solutions.

Art lessons learned in 1877 under the name "Urban Higher Art School " reorganization. 1905 moved to art school in the newly built rooms on the top floor of the Hall School at the Maximilian street around. There they remained, apart from war and destruction- related outsourcing, repeatedly changed until 1984. 1921 this institution was affiliated to the Industrial College of the City of Augsburg, but retained their own lives to destruction in an air raid in 1944 at.

1893 Baugewerkschule was launched in 1905 were initiated by the " Augsburger commercial hall " ( an association of Augsburg trader ) the establishment of the "Augsburg trade school ". For this, the former State Stud at the Baumgartnerstraße for this purpose was rebuilt. A year later, the school, the Augsburg weaving is connected. Due to lack of space, extensive renovations and new buildings were required in 1910. Two years later the incorporation of a department for spinning and thus the establishment of a college of mechanical and electrical engineering as a successor to the 1907 resolution on the Royal Decree Industrial School ( inventory and premises were then used by the newly established imperial district secondary school, today Holbein High ). Later, in September of the same year, all colleges and technical courses at the Baumgartner road to a total institution under the name " Industrial schools of the city of Augsburg " have been combined. This is the name of the so -called " A- building " and a year in 1913 on the so-called "F- construction " related.

From 1924 to 1932 industrial technical school, the " Higher Technical Institute of the City of Augsburg " was affiliated with the departments of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. These consisted parallel a Municipal Building School with five semesters of training duration. Both schools were merged in 1932 under the name Higher Technical School, which were still connected the intellectual property management schools including the Municipal Higher Art School.

After the Second World War, the teaching could be resumed in January 1946. The technical and artistic institutions were independent and were again under the name of " construction and engineering school" and reopened " art school " the city of Augsburg. 1951, led to a renewed renaming of construction and engineering school in " Rudolf-Diesel- construction and engineering school in the city of Augsburg, Academy of Applied Technology". The study period in 1953 increased from 5 to 6 semesters and at the same time set the course of electrical engineering study programs in power engineering and communications engineering.

On 1 October 1958, the " construction and engineering school" received after appropriate expansion the name " Rudolf-Diesel- Polytechnic of Augsburg, Academy of Applied Technology".

In the 1950s and - 60s, the A- building of the C Building was completed by the B- Wing and the Great Hall with physics nuclear physics laboratory, completed and the mechanical engineering laboratory designed (D - construction).

In July 1965, the Intellectual Property colleges were disbanded without replacement after about 60 years of existence.

The "art school" was awarded in 1961 the name of " art school in the city of Augsburg, Higher College of Applied graphics and painting." It included a one-semester preparatory course modeled after the Bauhaus in Dessau and was in the four subject classes use graphic pattern design, shop windows and exhibition design and Applied divided painting.

Both urban facilities were combined on 1 August 1971 on the State University of Applied Sciences Augsburg. In the training directions technology and design the teaching areas of the predecessor schools were continued.

The university has since been continuously grown and expanded: With the beginning of the winter semester 1974/75 was the training in economics, a new training branch opened. Today's Faculty of Economics (then Department of Business Administration ) was created in 1979 as a spin-off of the Department of General Studies. Another field came in the winter semester 1980/81 with the study of computer science to do so. 1991 saw the establishment of independent computer science department (Faculty of computer science today). The computer science program Media / Multimedia was established in the winter semester 1996/97 as the Faculties of Design and computer science. The degree program in Environmental Engineering Faculty of Mechanical Engineering started in the winter semester of 1998 /99. In the winter semester 2000/ 01 the courses began mechatronics, industrial computer science and International Business with the teaching. By and by so-called training programs have been established. In the winter semester 1995/96 launched at the Faculty of General Sciences at the postgraduate course " Environmental Emission Control ", in the winter semester 2000/ 01 at the Faculty of Architecture / Civil Engineering degree program " Construction Management" ( Master of Engineering in Project Management) and in the winter semester 2007/ 08 at the Faculty of mechanical Engineering of the course " technology Management ".

In the winter semester of 2005, with the H - building a service center with central library, computer center and cafeteria are related, the first new building for a long time. In the spring of 2007, the buildings were inaugurated K to M for the Faculties of Design and computer science at the site of the former schoolboys 's calico. Here, the historical head building was renovated in the style of a baroque palace and the two 1996 broken, wings rebuilt in a modern style with glass, steel and concrete.

The newly created second campus at the Friedberger Straße, which also includes the related early as 1999 by the faculty of computer science J -Bau heard, was named because of its proximity to the Red Gate Campus at the Red Gate. The buildings at the site Baumgartnerstraße were named campus on Fountain Lech through the hole creek that flows through the grounds of the university between H - construction on the western and A and E Construction on the eastern shore. He is also known in the field of university Fountain Lech.

A change in the Bavarian Higher Education Act in 2007 from the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg University of Applied Sciences - Fachhochschule Augsburg. Since February 2008, the short form of Augsburg University is used as a name. 2011 was again renamed in University of Applied Sciences Augsburg ( Augsburg University, as continues abbreviation ).

2011 celebrated the University of Augsburg its 40th anniversary as a university.

The Faculty of Economics was referring to the winter term 2011/12 a new building on the campus at the Red Gate. Previously she was for 34 years, together with the music and art Education chairs the University of Augsburg in Lechhausen in Schillstraße in the former College of Education, where she has been swapped for the winter semester 1977/78 from the main campus.
