Alexander Grimm

Alexander Grimm ( born September 6, 1986 in Augsburg ) is a German canoeist. It was 2008 Olympic champion in canoe slalom.

Alexander Grimm 's Sports soldier and starts for Kanu Schwaben Augsburg ( the canoe sports department of TSV Schwaben Augsburg ), where he is coached by Thomas Apel. He specializes in boat class one kayak. At the national level Grimm won the German championship for Juniors in 2002 and 2004. In the men's area, Grimm won in 2005, 2006 and 2007, the team title and in 2007 the Singles Title.

From 2002 to 2004 Grimm was one of the junior national team, since 2005 the men's national team. In 2002 he won at the Junior World Championships silver with the team at the 2003 European Junior Championships in Hohen Limburg bronze in singles and gold in the team. At the Junior World Championships in Lofer Grimm won the 2004 also gold in singles and silver in the team. In 2005 he first came in to the men's World Cup in Sydney. He was 13th in the individual competition. At the European Championships in the same year Grimm won the silver medal with the team. In 2006, he reached the second place in the world rankings. At the World Championships in Prague, he was tenth in the individual, at the European Championships he won the bronze medal with the team. Twice he reached podium places in the World Cup. His first victory in the World Cup reached Grimm 2007. Augsburg he won the race and finished third in the overall World Cup standings. At the 2007 World Championships in Foz do Iguaçu he became world champion with the team and was ranked 28 in singles competition. At the 2007 European Championships he won with the team rank two and in the individual standings rank seven.

At the national qualifier for the German Olympic team in Beijing Grimm beat out the runner-up world champion Fabian Dörfler and World Cup winner Erik Pfannmöller. At the 2008 Summer Olympics he won the gold medal after the final he could fight his way from fourth to first place itself. Grimm was the first German Olympic Summer Games of 2008.

Since the winter semester 2008/2009 Grimm studied mechanical engineering at the University of Augsburg.
