Augustin Dontenwill

Augustin Dontenwill OMI ( born June 4, 1857 in Bischwiller, France, † November 30, 1931 in Rome) was a French Oblate of Mary Immaculate

Augustin Dontenwill joined the community of the Oblates and was ordained priest on 30 May 1885. On April 19, 1897, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Germanicopolis and consecrated on 22 August 1897 by Archbishop Louis Philip Adélard Langevin OMI Bishop. He was tried as a coadjutor in the Diocese of New Westminster to the bishop there Pierre -Paul Durieu OMI aside. On 1 June 1899 he became Bishop of New Westminster. With elevation of 19 September 1908 Pope Pius X, now Archdiocese of Vancouver he became the first archbishop there. Just one day later, on 20 September 1908 he was elected Superior General of the Oblates and had to give up the office of the Archbishop of Vancouver. He was titular per hac vice of Ptolemais in Phoenicia and went to Rome. On January 19, 1910, Neil McNeil, Archbishop of Vancouver. In his time as Coadjutor Bishop he was responsible among other things the construction of the Cathedral of the Holy Rosary in Vancouver. Augustin Dontenwill died on 30 November 1931 in Rome.
