Augustus Seymour Porter

Augustus Seymour Porter ( born January 18, 1798 in Canandaigua, New York, † September 18, 1872 in Niagara Falls, New York ) was an American politician.

Porter studied law at Union College in Schenectady. After graduating in 1818 he was admitted to the legal profession and practiced in Detroit, Michigan. In 1838 he was mayor of the city. On January 20, 1840, he was chosen for the Whig Party in the U.S. Senate and was that of 20 January 1840 to 3 March 1845. Porter was not for a bid again available. In 1848 he moved to Niagara Falls, New York in his father's house. There, Porter also died in 1872. He was buried at the Oakwood Cemetery.

Augustus Seymour Porter was the nephew of Peter Buell Porter.
