John Patton, Jr.

John Patton Jr. ( born October 30, 1850 in Curwensville, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, † May 24 1907 in Grand Rapids, Michigan ) was an American politician ( Republican), who represented the state of Michigan in the U.S. Senate.

Patton prepared at Phillips Academy in Andover to college before and made his 1875 graduation from Yale, where he was a member of the fraternity Skull & Bones. In 1877 he graduated at the Faculty of law at Columbia College in New York City. The following year he moved to Grand Rapids in Michigan, where he became a member of the Bar and began to practice as a lawyer.

After the death of U.S. Senator Francis B. Stockbridge on April 30, 1894 Patton was appointed by Michigan Governor John Tyler Rich as his successor. He took his seat in Congress on May 5 this year, and remained there until 14 January 1895. Choosing the regular successor he lost to Julius C. Burrows.

This Patton's political career was already finished back. He then rose to a banking industry and later became president of the Board of Library Commissioners of Grand Rapids. He died there in 1907.

His father John was from 1861 to 1863 and from 1887 to 1889 as a deputy for Pennsylvania U.S. House of Representatives to his younger brother Charles 1911-1915.
