Avondale Heights, Victoria

Avondale Heights is a neighborhood in the northwest of the Australian city of Melbourne. He is about 12 km from the city center. In 2006 he had a total population of 11,079. Avondale Heights is bordered to the south, east and west by the Maribyrnong River. The northern border is the Buckley Street.

History

The area was already inhabited in the founding of Melbourne in 1835. In the first decades there has been operated mainly sheep farming. The area was first known under the name of Maribyrnong West. In the 1930s, the large pastures were divided and used by smaller businesses to livestock and dairy farming. Opened in 1957, a post office. From the 1960s, the area was converted into a residential area.
