History

After a tour with Opeth 2009, the self-produced by the band in the album Duper Studios, Earshot Studios and peer Sonal sound was recorded. Mixed by Jens Bogren it was at Fascination Street Studios. Grutle Kjellson suggested as the title Ethica Odini what is the title of the Latin translation of the Hávamál, while Ivar Bjørnson wanted to call the album Axioma; ultimately they decided that a combination of the two tracks was working well. The correct plural should read Axiomae, but the band chose the form of Axioma, because they sounded good.

Music style

The album is in comparison to its predecessors Ruun and Vertebrae "harder, more aggressive [ ... ] production has been different, clear, modern, metallic ' " and with a bit more distortion.
