Shaping

The cover shows a photographed by Svein Grønvold landscape, in the upper part of the lettering of the band and the lower the title frost. Instead of the letters of the alphabet here runes were used, similar to the letter, but do not meet them in part. The F is represented by the Ansuz rune from the Elder Futhark with the phonetic value of a, the R ŋ by Raidho, O by Ingwaz with the phonetic value, S by Sowilo in the variant of the Younger Futhark and T by Tiwaz. In the jewel case version of the logo and the title are each centered printed on the plastic bag and therefore not visible on the booklet, in the LP version of Enslaved logo is top left and printed the title bottom right, both each proportionally smaller than in the CD version. The cover concept is by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson.

On the back of Beihefts a picture, frost and below Viking Metal is above the respective centered above the title, not, as claimed by Götz Kühnemund, " in bold letters on the back cover " is; there are the track list, a few lines in Norwegian and pictures Grutle Kjellsons with Nasalhelm, Ivar Bjørnson with sword and Trym Torsons seen in leather clothing with mask and whip. The booklet can be found except the lyrics in the original Norwegian and English translations as well as a list of greetings a photograph of the musician with the same props in the forest. For Kjellsons and Bjørnson's clothing Trulte Teigen was responsible, the photographs of the musicians come from Harald Nordbakken. For the design of the album Robin Malmberg of Mysticum was responsible.

Reception

Kai Wendel wrote in his review in Rock Hard, it was " [k ] aum a band [ ... ] succeeded in having, Under The Sign [ '] develop eingeprügelten style so awesome. [ ... ] The Northern Lights are the best that Norway has to offer currently on extreme sounds and deserve for their music, the predicate, Bathory nineties '. "Se of the e-zine Bloodchamber.de wrote Frost count " [n ] ot to wrong [ ... ] is still the most legendary albums ENSLAVEDs and the Norwegian nineties. Already on Vikingligr Veldi 'have the versatile Scandinavians impressively indicated what the new cosmos they are created with their music. " The cover he praises as" one of the finest front designs. " The band had " laid the foundation for today's widespread and in many parts also degenerate genre [ ... ]. Therefore one must not commit the wrong conclusion, "Frost" dismiss it as inconsequential Viking Düdelei. For this album lives an audible roughness, the character of an unpolished Rohdiamant (also the sound on ) hold. The further ground (see the following albums) has this harmed in the subsequent period by no means, but the rough-hewn form does not sound imperfect, but carries a different type of Phaszination in itself. " Götz Kühnemund -reviewed album of 2009 and wrote the musical elements " fit, have to carry the ENSLAVED to the end of their careers with up to a giant together. Later works of the band were musically demanding and much elaborated meticulous - but the impetuous anger and the raw energy of ' Frost' can not be more than 15 years later reproduce. And if here of Anger 'and' energy ' is mentioned, then we are not talking about uncontrolled, adolescent violence, but by a unique force that grabs the phone and throws in other worlds. And it creates a perverse and indomitable lust. ". As musical features he summarizes, " [ w] ütend gekreischte Berserk vocals, pounding drums, about hitting riffs, Nordic melodies and a very good, but completely non-commercial ' production " together. 2010 Frost was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Decibel magazine.
