Style of music and texts

The music has been described as " epic ", all pieces except Heimdallr are longer than 10 minutes. The keyboard is an important part of music that still has raw black metal influences. Vocal passages are rare. The album ends with the instrumental Norvegr, the electric and acoustic instrumentation mixed.

In the accompanying text explains Enslaved that the lyrics were originally written in Icelandic, with the exception of the held in old Norwegian fourth piece Heimdallr, originally released in 1992 on the demo recording Yggdrasill. The band would like to thank Sigvalda Thorlakson, " the kindly his knowledge and wisdom with us divided " and the lyrics for the band translated and edited. English translations of the texts are also included. In Heimdallr is an old Norwegian legend. In the booklet, the band calls their listeners to join her in their 'march to the eternal glory " to fade the " low light " and to raise the flames of Midgard.

Reception

Robert Mueller of the German Metal Hammer called Enslaveds " contribution to gandiosen split LP with Emperor as [ sic] " something like the secret highlight: Nordic myths songs about dräuendem Black Metal mixed with Pan.Thy.Monium reminiscent of avant-garde Sprengseln "; in comparison, was their debut album " a little disappointing, because where once the always long songs could come up with many interesting facets, now reigns a bit too often monotonous rage ". Milan by The Metal Observer designated Vikingligr Veldi as " great," the album was a " timeless classic " of Viking Metal and a "testament to those who think keyboards have no place in Black Metal".
