Azumanga Daioh

Azumanga Daioh (Japaneseあずまんが大王, Azumanga Daio, dt about " The Great King Azumanga ") is a Yonkoma - manga series by the Japanese illustrator Kiyohiko Azuma. The comedy manga, which is about the school life of some Japanese high school students and their teachers, appeared from 1999 to 2002 and comprises about 600 pages and was continued in 2009. He was filmed as an anime television series.

Action

Your first year of high school to start, among other things Tomo Takino (滝 野 智), Koyomi " Yomi " Mizuhara (水 原 暦) and Sakaki (榊), all go in the same class. The ten-year Chiyo Mihama (美浜 ちよ) pushes it. She has skipped five classes and is still always the best in class. Although she is extremely smart and responsible for her age, she still has the naivety, desires and particularly fears of a child. She befriends with Tomo, Yomi and Sakaki.

Also during the current school year comes Ayumu Kasuga (春日 歩) in the class who has moved from Osaka to Tokyo and therefore the nickname " Osaka" (大阪, Ōsaka ) is replaced with which they then appeal to even the teachers. Osaka, who befriends the four other girls, often behaves very slow, tired and lost in their own world.

Chiyo's parents are rich and own a holiday home. The five girls decide to spend the holidays while there is a little time. They are accompanied by their class teacher and the physical education teacher Minamo " Nyamo " Kurosawa (黒沢 みなも) who have been friends since high school and the " Yukari -sensei " a similar relationship as to Tomo Yomi has. While " Nyamo " three girls takes her to her car, Yukari Chiyo and Osaka goes to the house. Chiyo carries traffic from Yukaris wild style - she pays no attention to traffic signs or pedestrians, let alone traffic lights - literally a trauma it.

In the second high school year brings Yukari Kagura (神 楽) in the class of five girls; she makes friends with them. Kagura is the swimming club and sees Sakaki as a rival, since the two usually occupy the best places for sport competitions of the school. And forms part of Tomo and Osaka, a self- founded group for fools to, the " wooden head - Trio", as the three most below-average scores have.

Running gags

  • Sakaki has indeed very fond of cats, but they hate this. Once they want to stroke a cat, it is then always bitten. Only with a trip to Okinawa with her girlfriends met Sakaki an Iriomote cat, she can caress. The cat, which she calls Maya ( Okinawa dialect for " cat " ), follows Sakaki from Okinawa to home.   • Chiyo's parents are mentioned but never shown. Instead, Sakaki dreams of a cat-like creature called " Chiyo's father." Osaka gives Chiyo on her birthday a stuffed animal that looks like " Chiyo's father." It appears more times in history.

Publications

The Azumanga Daioh comic strip appeared in Japan in the expenditure 2 /1999 ( = December 1998) to 5 /2002 ( = March 2002) in the manga magazine Dengeki Comic Daio. The Media Works publishing house brought this comic strip from February 2002 out in four anthologies.

The manga was also published in Canada, the U.S., South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Spain, France and Germany. On the German publishing house Tokyopop published the four anthologies from July 2006 to January 2007. Translation comes from Marcus Wehner. A new edition of the German version in two double volumes appeared in April and June 2012.

In the May 12, 2009 (Issue 6/2009 ) started manga magazine Get the Sun (ゲッサン, Gessan, also called Gekkan Shōnen Sunday ) of Shogakukan publishing is one of the works appearing therein the continuation Azumanga Daio: Hoshūhen (あずまんが大王 ·补习 编, dt " Azumanga Daio: tutoring band" ) in chapters 3 to 12 July 2009 (Issue 8/2009 ) was launched. Furthermore, the revised edition was published from 11 June to 18 August, 2009 three volumes of the original manga, with a revise Character Design, modified panels and texts. This also contained Hoshūhen.

Anime

On 28 December 2000, the four-minute Web - Anime Azumanga Web Daio (あずまんがWeb大王) appeared.

2002 of the studio JCStaff a 26- episode anime television series for manga, when Hiroshi Nishikiori directed. The character design designed Yasuhisa Kato and Chikako Shibatawar artistic director. From 9 April to 1 October 2002 (after midnight and therefore the previous TV day ) ran the series on the Japanese television TV Tōkyō and TV Aichi, and offset by a half-hour on TV Osaka, one day on TVQ Kyushu and by two days to TV Hokkaido.

The series of The Anime Network was broadcast in the United States, the Philippines by TV5. There are also translations into Spanish, French and Dutch. In Germany, the anime has been completely released on DVD by ADV Films.

Music

The music of the series was composed by Masaki Kurihara. The band Oranges & Lemons played the opening credits song Soramimi Cake, and credits title Raspberry Heaven.

Video Games

For manga released in Japan three video games. The first Azumanga Daio Donjara (あずまんが ドンジャラ 大王), was released on 18 April 2002 with Bandai and was a puzzle game for the PlayStation. December 2002 appeared with Azumanga Daio Puzzle Bobble (あずまんが大王 パズル ボブル) an arcade game of MOSS. The last Azumanga Daio Advance (あずまんが大王 アドバンス), was published on 25 April 2003, King Records for the Game Boy Advance.
