Babson Park is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Polk County in the U.S. state of Florida with 1,356 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Babson Park is adjacent to the city of Hillcrest Heights and is located approximately 35 km east of Bartow and about 90 km south of Orlando. The CDP is crossed by the Florida State Road 17.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 1,356 inhabitants distributed in 462 households. The population density was 347.7 inh. / Km ². 73.5 % of the population were white, 18.1% African American, 0.1% Native American and 2.4% Asian Americans. 3.3% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.7% in different ethnic groups. 8.4% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 23.9 % of all households lived in 37.5 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 70.3 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.78 persons and the average family size is 3.22 people.

34.4 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 32.2% were 20-39 years old, 19.3% were 40-59 years old and 14.2% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 24 years. 52.6 % of the population were male and 47.4 % female.

The average annual income was $ 34,420, while 11.8 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 93.44 % of the population spoke Spanish and 6.56%.

Economy

A significant industry, there is not. The main employment sectors are: education, health and social services: (12.5%), trade / retail ( 14.8%), Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, and mining ( 13.6 %).
