Baby Dee

Baby Dee ( born 1953 in Cleveland, Ohio as Dee Harris) is an American singer, pianist and harpist.

Musical development

Various positions ( inter alia as a choir director and organist of a Catholic church in the Bronx and as a circus performer ) she met in New York Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons know and worked on the band's debut album with. A short time later published her first solo albums. Their music is often described as eccentric, but also very fragile and emotional, cabaret and chanson elements of sound. Dee does not sing falsetto, but exclusively. While they had recorded their first releases on their own, a number of partially known musicians are at their most successful album " Safe Inside the Day" involved, such as Will Oldham, Matt Sweeney, Andrew WK, William Breeze and John Contreras. By guitars and electric bass and rock elements are now integrated into the sound. Baby Dee Lyrics are partly autobiographical and cover topics such as childhood memories, outsider and aspects of transsexualism; they testify despite serious moments also by a sense of twisted comedy.

Dee has played in recent years extensively live, often along with other musicians like Current 93 ( at which recordings they sometimes participates ), Marc Almond, Rickie Lee Jones, Julia Kent, Little Annie and Simon Finn.
