Simon Finn (musician)

Simon Finn ( born March 4, 1951 in Surrey ) is an English folk singer and guitarist.

CV and musical career

Finn was born in Surrey in 1967 and moved to London. There he first came in the opening act for Al Stewart at the Marquee Club in Soho. He released his first LP Pass the Distance 1970 at Mushroom Records later obtained the plate as a rare collectors piece cult status. The reason was the publication stop due to a legal dispute. The album contains, among other posts by Kenneth Elliott and David Toop and is often associated with the subgenre Acid Folk.

In 1974, Finn moved to Canada, where he worked as a farmer and karate instructor. Since 1980 he lives ( with a few brief interruptions ) in Montreal, Quebec. Finn has since written further music and also some literary texts, but hardly published on an annual anything. Only in 2004 Pass the Distance was re-released on Durtro / Jnana. In the same year Finn resigned after a 35 - year hiatus from the music scene for the first time to live. His first performance was held in Toronto as the support of the group Current 93. Since then he has played in many countries, partly together with artists such as Graham Coxon, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, Antony and the Johnsons, Joolie Wood, Maja Elliott, Panteleimon and Baby Dee. His second album, Magic Moments appeared 35 years after its predecessor and is characterized by a darker, more melancholy, but also more minimalist sound than the debut: In addition to singing and acoustic guitar only occasionally flute and violin heard.

Finn counted at times also to the live cast of Current 93, which in 2004 two songs from his debut album ( The Courtyard and Jerusalem) have reinterpreted with Finn on guitar. Finn's next album, Accidental Life, was released in July 2007. Among the contributors to the re opulent recordings include Joolie Wood ( the Finn as a single on Magic Moments accompanied ), David Toop ( only one of the original group ), Karl Blake (including Shock Headed Peters), Danielle Dax, Rose McDowall ( Sorrow, Strawberry Switchblade ) and Tony Uter. The record was released on Finn's own independent label 10 Records to 1. In his latest work, the Council Laugh Mice Sing Finn is linked to the wider instrumented sound of its predecessor.
