Rose McDowall

Rose McDowall ( born October 21, 1959 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish musician who plays and sings since 1978 in various groups and solo.

Life

Rose McDowall grew up in Glasgow and enthusiastic in the 1970s for Punk. In 1978, she decided on a concert of the Ramones with her boyfriend and later husband Drew McDowall to form the punk band The Poems, in which she played drums. In 1981 she founded together with Jill Bryson and two other musicians, the synth - pop band Strawberry Switchblade. After a Peel session on 4 October 1982, the success grew and the band moved to London. There, they signed a contract with the major label WEA Records. By concentrating on this project and for personal reasons (now her daughter was born Keri ), was no more time for The Poems and these dissolved. 1986, including Strawberry Switchblade dissolved, since the success fell short of expectations and occurred tensions between McDowall and Bryson.

In the 1980s and 1990s she was a very active member of the London music scene. She appears on numerous albums and concerts of several bands, in particular in the field of Industrial and Neofolk scene. It is worth noting that these guest appearances are often in stark contrast to the popular music of Strawberry Switchblade. In particular, the atonal, abstract noise music of groups like Current 93 and Nurse With Wound is very far separated from their chart -oriented music.

In 1993 she founded with her second husband, Robert Lee, the band Sorrow, which disbanded in 2005. In the meantime, she left London and lives with her children in the English countryside. It is committed to Feenglaube and Paganism.

Music

Rose McDowall was in four groups as a founding member of this: The punk band The Poems (1978-1982), the synth - pop duo Strawberry Switchblade (1981-1986), the oriented to the music of the 1960s and 1970s, along with Boyd Rice founded group Spell ( 1993) and the neo-folk band Sorrow ( 1993-2005 ). Since 2004, she published under her own name.

She was ( part -time) permanent member of Current 93, Death in June, Rosa Mundi and Felt.

She performed as a singer, guitarist, drummer, keyboard or Melodicaspielerin among others, the following groups and artists: Psychic TV, Coil, Primal Scream, Sol Invictus, Backworld, Alex Fergusson, Megas, Into a Circle, Nature and Organisation, Nurse With Wound and ornamental.
