Bahi Ladgham

Bahi Ladgham ( born January 10, 1913 in Tunis, † April 13, 1998 in Paris) was Prime Minister of Tunisia.

Biography

During the struggle for independence from France, he first worked as a lieutenant adjutant of Habib Bourguiba. Between 1951 and 1955, head of the office for the national liberation of Tunisia in New York City.

After reaching the sovereignty of France on 20 March 1956 he was in 1957 appointed secretary of the President. After this office already in effect tantamount to the position of a prime minister, it was on 7 November 1969, officially renamed. Accordingly Ladgham was from that day Prime Minister, a position he held until November 2 1970. In addition, he was from 1957 to 1966 and again in 1968 Minister of National Defence and briefly in 1958 and 1960, Minister of Finance and Planning and Minister of Trade in 1960.

During the " Black September ", a Palestinian- Jordanian conflict in 1970, he headed the mediation committee of the Arab League.

On November 2, 1970, he was dismissed as Prime Minister and replaced by the former Governor of the Central Bank Hedi Nouira after President Bourguiba had decided to abandon socialism in favor of a liberalization of the economy.
