Bakhtiyar Akhmedov

Bachtijar Schachabutdinowitsch Akhmedov (Russian Бахтияр Шахабутдинович Ахмедов, scientific transliteration Bachtijar Šachabutdinovič Achmedov; born 5 August 1987) is a Russian wrestler.

Career

Bakhtiar Akhmedov is Kumyk and comes from Dagestan. He began in 1997 as a teenager with the rings and is a member of Dinamo Makhachkala. His coach is Imam Murzar. The 1.90 m wide and about 115 kg athlete is sports student. He wrestles exclusively in free style.

Bakhtiar Akhmedov was already in the junior age among the best wrestlers the world in the respective age groups ( Cadets, Juniors). In 2003 and 2004 he was in Skopje and Istanbul each European Junior Champion ( Cadets ) in the weight category up to 100 kg body weight. In 2007 he was European Junior Champion ( Juniors) in Belgrade before Oleg Ivanov, Ukraine & Mario Christian Marian, Romania and Beijing Junior World Champion in front of Mohamed Reza Azar Shakib Seyed of Iran and Zhiwei Deng from China, each in the heavyweight division.

In 2007 he was employed at the World Cup in Krasnoyarsk already in the Russian national team of seniors. He came here in the individual standings behind Alireza Rezaie Manesh from Iran, Tolly Thompson from the United States and Alexei Schemanow from Russia on the 4th Place.

In 2008 he won the " Ivan Yarigin " tournament in Krasnoyarsk compete in the heavyweight division. He let his Russian compatriots, the multiple world champion and Olympic champion Kuramagomed Kuramagomedow and the 2007 World Champion Biljal Valeryevich Machów behind. He presented thus paving the way for a great career in senior level. At the 2008 European Championships in Tampere, however, he suffered a setback, because he lost his second fight there against the Russian Olympic champion from 2000 Dawid Mussulbes that, a successful comeback after a few years break, starting for Slovakia. With victories over Aubeli Otto from Hungary and the Turkish former world champion Aydın Polatçı but he still reached the 3rd place.

In the championship of Russia in June 2008 in St Petersburg, Bakhtiar won with his title win in the heavyweight division before Alexei Schemarow and Bilial Machów definitely the ticket to the Olympic Games in Beijing. There, he scored with Dawid Mussulbes and the Americans Steve Mocco to the main favorites, he won the silver medal behind Artur Taymazov from Uzbekistan.

In December 2008 Bachtijar Akhmedov was seriously injured in a knife and took several years until full recovery.
