Balșa

Balsa [ balʃa ] ( German Baleschen or Balza, Hungarian Balsa ) is a municipality in the district of Hunedoara in Transylvania, Romania.

Geographical location

The community Balsa lies to the east of the Transylvanian Erzgebirge ( Munţii Metaliferi ) west of the Transylvanian Basin ( Podişul Transilvaniei ). In the northeast of the circle Hunedoara, at Geoagiu - a rake tributary of the Mureş ( Maros ) - and the county road (drum Judetean ) DJ located 705, the place in a limestone area is located approximately 19 kilometers northwest of the town of Geoagiu; the district capital Deva ( Deva ) is located about 60 km (22 km, bee-line ) southwest of Balsa away.

History

The place Balsa was first mentioned in documents in 1407. However, the history of settlement in the region is sufficient, according to G. Téglás, I. Martian and M. Roska back to prehistory. Such objects were discovered above the church on the mountain Muncel. Furthermore, were made archaeological finds from the Bronze Age between Balsa and the eingemeindeten Mada village in the Piatra Sincoiuşului Cave.

The state finished my village Roşia was only in 2005 connected to the mains.

Because of the mountainous countryside of the inhabitants live mainly from livestock (mostly sheep) and from orchards. Approximately 3% of the municipal area is arable land, 9% pasture and 63 % woods.

Population

In the 1850 census, lived on the territory of the present municipality of 4,033 people. 3,910 of these were Romanians and 123 Roma. The highest population ( 6,200 ) - at the same time the Romanians ( 6080 ) - was reached in 1910. The highest number of Hungary (179 ) and the Germans ( 29, 15 of them in eingemeindeten village Techereu ( Deckendorf ) ) was determined in 1900 and the Roma (128 ) 1930. In addition, designated in 1977 32, 1992 and 2002, five residents as Ukrainians in 1977 as a Serb and 1900 as a Slovak. In 2002, in the town of Balsa only 1,217 people registered, of which 1,199 Romanians, two Hungarians, Roma eleven and five Ukrainians.

  • The Orthodox churches in several incorporated villages Ardeu (1882 built ), Bunesti (1872 built ), Galbina (1844 built ), Mada ( built in 1920 ), Poiana (1792 built ), Techereu (1720 built ) and Voia (1882 built ).
