Baltazar Maria de Morais Júnior

Baltazar Maria de Morais Junior, short Baltazar ( born June 17, 1959 in Goiânia, Brazil), is a former Brazilian footballer.

Career

Association

Baltazar started his career with his hometown club Atlético Goianiense. At 20, he moved to Grêmio. With the club from Porto Alegre in 1981, he won the final of the Brazilian Championship against FC São Paulo. After an unremarkable year at Palmeiras, he joined Flamengo in 1983 and won again the championship. After another interludes at Palmeiras and Botafogo finally Baltazar 1985 succeeded with his move to Celta Vigo the jump to Europe. However, with the newly minted first division he rose promptly in the Segunda División. This became the Brazilians with 34 goals for the league 's top scorer and was thus instrumental in the resurgence of Celtiñas. Since he also in the Primera Liga and won the following year with his club prematurely secured the league, he soon attracted the interest of some big clubs in coming.

For the season 1988/89 he then moved to Atlético Madrid. In the Spanish capital, he scored 35 goals at once. Baltazar order secured by a large margin the Pichichi Trophy and his club to participate in the UEFA Cup. Already in the following season he came under coach Javier Clemente, however, are less in use. Nevertheless, he was with 18 goals once again among the top three goalscorers in the league. Shortly after the beginning of the season 1990/91 Atlético undertook the German midfielder Bernd Schuster. At that time because Spanish clubs were appointed only three foreigners in the team, Baltazar was suggested that a change of club. He then played a few more years in Portugal and France before he could finish his career in Brazil and Japan.

National

Baltazar ran in 1980 for the first time to the Brazilian national football team on. He was then appointed to the Seleção but again only after his successful first season at Atletico Madrid and won with the 1989 Copa América.
